Almaaz

ε Aur in Auriga

Once ignited, 20% of its creator fees go to the Starlight Fund, which pays for a real telescope photo of Almaaz.

#144 brightest in our sky; really 130× Sun. If Almaaz replaced the Sun, its surface would reach past Mercury’s orbit. It looks modest only because it’s so far away (~2,100 ly). It’s a giant.

Almaaz and the Sun, true relative size. At this scale the Sun would be 0.71 px wide; the ring marks where it is.

Survey image. Digitized Sky Survey (DSS2) plate, 30′ across, via CDS hips2fits. Bright stars bloom on photographic plates. Not a Starlight Fund observation.
